Want to make a pretty, easy and a delicious dessert for a party? These cones will surely do the trick and they look beautiful on any of our table runners đ Thanks again to Kristina at KakesbySpecialK for this recipe!
Â
As I mentioned, you only need a few ingredients, however you do need a few tools. If you can borrow these from a friend (like I did) or if you have these readily available than this is the recipe for you!
Â
Makes approximately 50 cones
Â
Step 1: Defrost the 5 sheets of shortcut pastry
Step 2: Pre-heat your oven to 180C (fan forced) or 200C
Step 3: Cut your shortcut pastry into 10 vertical strips. I used a sharp knife to do this, however you can use a pizza cutter or any type of tool to cut the pastry evenly.
Step 4: Wrap each vertical strip of shortcut pastry onto the cone shaper. Start with wrapping the tip first and work your way to the thicker end of the cone shaper.
Tip: You do not need to press the pastry onto the cone, just use light pressure. Place the pastry wrapped cone onto a baking sheet with the end of the pastry facing down. If this part faces up, it will curl while baking.
Step 5: Repeat the process for all 50 vertical strips and place them in the oven for 12 minutes or until they are golden brown.
Step 6: Let the cones cool and slide the pastry off of the metal cones.
Tip: Use tongs to hold onto the top part of the cone while sliding the pastry off as the shaper will be hot. Allow to cool before adding the filling.
Step 7:Â While the cones are cooling, use a mixer and mix together the thickened cream, milk and instant pudding until light and fluffy.
Step 8: Put the cream into a piping bag.
Step 9:Â Once the cones are cooled and your cream is in the piping bag, you can start filling your cones!
Tip:Â Stand up your cones in shot glasses so that you can have 2 hands on the piping bag while filing each of the cones.Â
Step 10: Sprinkle icing sugar on top before serving.
Â
Voila! Itâs easy as that and they will look gorgeous!

Hi Susan, Thanks for leaving a comment! No, actually shortcut pastry and puff pastry are a little different. The Shortcut pastry works well in tarts and the like and has a different texture than puff pastry. It tends to last a bit longer without getting soggy. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.
